Half the Sky Research Paper - 550 Words

Half the Sky (Research Paper Sample) Content: Reaction Paper to Literary Work: Half the SkyName:Institution: Reaction Paper to Literary Work: Half the Sky Women undergo several problems globally, mostly due to their gender. In the chapter one of the book Half the Sky, the main subject involves a Cambodian girl who with her friends were taken by some gangsters to Thailand and forced to work in a brothel. They were underage, and though forced to work without pay. This instance reflects greatly on the problems women face globally. The girls were forced to have sex with many men who mistreated them. In these situations, they were in the risk of contracting many venereal diseases, which is one of the health risks that women face around the globe today (Kristof WuDunn, 2010). Several steps are taken globally to improve womens health globally. The World Health Organization is mostly involved in taking care of this issue by providing support and financial assistance to poor countries to promote health care for women in those countries. Governments around the world also contribute by coming up with projects to support women empowerment that help to counter gender-based violence. Promoting free maternal health for women has also helped improve womens health. The governments also include a measure to help promote reduced fees for healthcare for some of the ailments facing women. Free breast and cervical screening is one of the many services that governments offer in order to promote women health globally. The empowerment projects also feature HIV positive women self-help groups, set up by...
